Hilarious! I love this rollicking saga. It has just the right amount of self-deprecating humor and is so well-written. Great break from Proust and Knausgaard and other gloomy autofiction.
I'm so glad you mentioned his "not so throbbing manhood." Loss of what they cal "potency" (amusing choice of words) was something I knew little about until I was in my 60s Why have that come as a surprise? We should mention it to our daughters, and sons, too. When I was in my 60s I learned that 1) lust never dies, no matter how old you are, and 2) it requires more and more creativity.
I totally identify with all of this. You convey delicate situations with deft humor showing respect and concern even when annoyed. Somebody give this woman a book deal.
But I especially love the rides on trains and boats!!
