She is part of the Impressionist show in Washington right now (I think). I saw the work firsthand at the Barnes a few years ago. There are several books containing reproductions and of course scads on the Internet. Best bio is still probably Higonnet but there is a lot about her in Sebastian Smee's recent "Paris in Ruins." She was quite a woman!
Good read, worthy story and yes, still relevant. Laura Figlewski made excellent points. Truth is under seige. MAGA wants women to stay in the kitchen or in the bedroom. We all need reminding to fight for individual freedoms as Morisot did. Don't look back...we're not going that way. We're not going back.
Great article! In the past I would have read this and seen it as a positive step in the progress of women's rights and autonomy. In our current climate it's a reminder of the people who want to drag us back to the past. We've probably come too far to do a complete reversal, but I've come to realize the power of stories, regardless of their truth. It's amazing how the right amount of small nudges can be used to "put people in their place," whether by gender or race.
The best source on her life is probably still Anne Higonnet's biography, but she weaves in and out of a Smee's fascinating history, which I highly recommend....
Such splendid work ! Yes, yes, for her fortitude and perseverance . Will enjoy seeking out more of Morisot . Much appreciate the revisit, had not thought of her for years, an oversight indeed.
Thank you Ann. I will hunt her down to see more of her work.

I also have not thought of her in years...thanks for the reminder!
Great read…. I had not thought of her in many years. I want to know more and will explore.
